About Us

At the beginning of 1975 Duncan Bush started working for A. Brian King, who had been practicing since 1946.  Brian took over a business that had been in operation since the early part of the century.  It operated as a Jewellery/Optical business.

At the end of 1975 Brian King retired and Duncan became the youngest solo practitioner in the country (for a short time) from the beginning of 1976.  The business was located in what was the Albion Hotel (now the Emerald Hotel) at 27 Gladstone Road.

In 1983 the practice moved to 401 Gladstone Road and at the beginning of 1990 the final shift was made to the present premises at 359 Gladstone Road.

At the end of 1994 Michael Ferguson finished his optometry degree and started working at what was known as Eastland Eyecare Centre.  In 1998 he became a full partner.

In 2000 the business became licensed to Visique, which is a nationwide network of Optometrists, committed to providing the very best professional eye care. This enabled patients to receive the widest range of professional services, the latest in lens technology, as well as many exclusive new products.

The practice has thrived under the Visique banner. Along with Optometrists Duncan and Michael, the team comprises of Kelly Knight (Practice Manager and Dispensing Optician), Tessa Rylott (Receptionist and Optometrist Assistant) and Leah McAneney (Receptionist and Optometrist Assistant).
